Stef DriessenComments Off on SCCM set a custom variable dependency using Powershell or Vbs

When you are a frequent user of SCCM, sooner or later you will want a custom variable on which u can set a dependency for jobs further on in the task sequence.

After searching online for a while and not finding a satisfying answer I decided to create a short how-to.

Automated USB wim deployment

Stef DriessenComments Off on Automated USB wim deployment

For a customer I was asked to create a easy way to deploy  images to thin clients and thin pc’s. The preference was to use a USB stick as network was not a option.

This brought a number of challenges that I will discuss in this blog.

Fase 1 -  Create the WinPE Usb stick
Fase 2 – Add the needed packages to the USB stick
Fase 3 – Get and prepare the WIM file
Fase 4 – Give WinPE Menu options to choose from
Fase 5 – Deploying the WIM
Fase 6 – Renaming the deployed computer
Fase 7 -  Recreate the BCD
Fase 8 – Re enable the write filter

Before we can start, we need a bootable USB stick with WinPE.
To create this we need a deployment server preferable with Windows server 2012.

Installing WES7 with VMware view on a T5740 2gb

Stef DriessenComments Off on Installing WES7 with VMware view on a T5740 2gb

Recently I was asked to build a wes7 (Windows Embedded Standard 7) image with VMware view client for a HP T5740 2GB model. This request did bring some interesting problems to the table like:

  • How to get WES7 on a 2GB flash drive
  • How to import the correct drivers to the image during install
  • How to install VMware view client
  • How to enable EWF (Enhanced Write Filter) on the T5740

But first things first lets install WES7 on a 2gb flash drive.

Using special characters in Microsoft Deployment Tool (model name)

Stef DriessenComments Off on Using special characters in Microsoft Deployment Tool (model name)

Currently we are working at a customer to set up a new environment.
To make this as easy as possible we are using the Microsoft Deployment Tool (MDT)

This will make it very easy to install computers with a new OS and the correct drivers.

However when the targeted computer uses the special characters like “/” in the WMI hostname, MDT runs into problems as the MDT workbench doesn’t allow special characters like “/”

The specified new name must not contain special characters

Stef DriessenComments Off on Windows 8.1 “No terminal server license servers available”

After a couple days of using Windows 8.1 I suddenly got an error when connecting with Citrix or a normal remote desktop session. Both the applications gave the error that there were no terminal server license servers available, which prevented me from connecting.

Stef DriessenComments Off on Outlook 2010 Calendar reminders not working anymore in a Citrix environment.

Recently we encountered the problem that one of our customers weren’t getting any calendar reminder pop-ups. As there were only a few people that had this problem we had to figure out what was causing this.

Remote Desktop with 1366×768 resolution

Stef DriessenComments Off on Remote Desktop with 1366×768 resolution

Since I got my new laptop (XPS 14z) I’ve been running into the following annoying problem.
When I minimalize my full screen remote desktop session it’s not possible to maximize it back again. It would maximize to a window size smaller than my monitor so I have to scroll to see everything from my session. Especially when you got multiple sessions and quickly want to check some things on your local computer this can be really annoying.

Getting Metro-Apps on your Windows 8/Server 2012 desktop

Stef DriessenComments Off on Getting Metro-Apps on your Windows 8/Server 2012 desktop

In the new Windows 8 or Server 2012 it can be annoying  to switch back en forth to be able to use the Metro-apps. So why not make a shortcut to use the Metro-apps directly from your desktop.
