If you want to use the mechanism provided by RES to gracefully logoff user sessions, you have to set some registry keys.
This mechanisme was configured at a costumer, but lead to unexpected logoff behaviour.
After 15 min the screensaver kicks in and 1 minute later it just triggers a logoff.

16th February I’ve attended the RES Software Partner Focus event at the Verkade Fabriek in Oeteldonk (Den Bosch). Attending this sort of events always feels like a reunion. You meet past and present colleagues and business partners.

The event was opened by channel manager Wilfred Noordman. He introduced the new channel team and thanked the partners for their commitment towards RES Software. Next up was product marketing director Erik Nicolai. He talked about the RES concept “Iedereen de werkplek die het beste werkt”. He explained this concept by showing pictures of how people work in de RES HQ. Everybody has different needs, due to different functions and different devices.

For the intergration of VMware ThinApp applications into RES Workspace Manager, a custom VBS is required in the root of the Setup Capture files folder.
The following code must be present in the script:
Function OnFirstParentStart
WaitForProcess ExecuteVirtualProcess(GetEnvironmentVariable(“pwrgrids”)),0
End Function
But some ThinApp applications failed to start after that, or any vbs script was added to the build.

While running a Citrix / XenApp or Terminal Server Published Desktop on a Windows laptop, the user is unable to check the laptop’s battery status. This may lead to a serious inconvenience when the battery runs out: the laptop will shut down and the user’s session will be terminated / disconnected. We have encountered this inconvenience on some of our projects, and developed a way to solve it. Our solution involves two elements: RES and BatStat.

Instant Mail is a feature of RES PowerFuse to configure a mail profile based on a template. This feature is more than welcome after the work-around Microsoft gave us with the PRF files. Instant Mail has been around since the early versions of PowerFuse and was known as Instant MAPI (because a mail profile is actually a MAPI profile) but with the release of PowerFuse 2010 they will rename it to ‘Mail templates’.
Renaming happens everywhere
As you might have noticed renaming happens everywhere. Citrix, for instance, is known for it’s many different product names which change sooner then the season. They even made a special site about the different names, acronyms and terminology! But that’s a bit off-topic.
Once upon a time there was an Instant Mail profile
Recently I ran into a situation where a Instant Mail profile was configured with the additional option ‘Once’. This option is set so that the profile is set once (duh!) and that changes afterwards are saved. These changes might include opening additional mailboxes or setting a signature.
This all works fine and I have been using it in many deployments.

Yesterday at ‘RES Software Partner Focus’ the new release of PowerFuse was shown to the public. CTO Bob Janssen gave a short demonstration of the new features and the redesigned management console.
RES PowerFuse is a ‘user environment workspace manager’ and can be used for all Windows desktops. It create a unified desktop with central management, secures the desktop environment, optimizes performance (on shared environments like TS/XenApp), and many more.
In the new release of PowerFuse, called 2010, RES went back to basic and ask thereselve the question “Why did we start building this product?”
Eventually they realized it was mainly about three items. Content, context and security.
Applications, printers and settings (etc) are content which needs to be deliverd to users based on groups, location, role (etc), which is the context. And of course there’s a need for security.
