Microsoft OCS on Linux
As one of the few, i use a Linux environment on my laptop for production. Now that we use Microsoft Office Communication Server, I needed to find a way of connecting to Microsoft OSC from my laptop. Luckily more people had this same challenge and so a project was started on sourceforge.net for the development of a plugin for pidgin. This plugin “SIPe” (http://sipe.sourceforge.net/) enables you to communicate with Microsoft OCS.
Unfortunately audio/video chat is not (yet) supported by the plugin, but it should be in the future. Anyway, I was very happy to see that I could use the Instant Messaging options of OCS (most used by me) and that I didn’t have to pull tricks, like using “WineHQ” (http://www.winehq.org/) or “Virtualbox/VMware Workstation” (http://www.virtualbox.org/ / http://www.vmware.com/products/workstation/) to get it all going with detours.
