VMware Workstation fails: CallJScript: Failed to obtain required required jscript ID; COM Error (Grey window)
For a while I have an annoying error regarding my VMware Workstation installation. Everytime I wanted to upgrade I receive a grey setup window with the title VMware Workstation Setup. In the %Temp% there is a log file with the following error: 20110916174500:ERROR** CHtmlDialog::CallJScript: Failed to obtain required required jscript ID; COM Error: -2147352570
A lot of people do have this issue and so VMware even created a knowledge base article of the issue: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1027986
Unfortunately this didn’t solve the issue. But after eximinating a bit further I saw the following call was made from Process Monitor:
HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\
The ” is quite weird, so removing this key solved the issue!
