Back-up and Recovery of Exchange 2010 with Veeam Backup & Replication version 6

Veeam Backup & replication version 6 I finally found some time to install version 6 of Veeam Back-up and replication and I was wondering if the back-up strategy that I used for Exchange 2010 in version 5 ( see part one, part two and part three for backup and recovery )  will change in the new version. Because in the What’s new guide it says that there is a 1 click file restore but there is noting mentioned about exchange! In this post I will describe the settings for exchange 2010 within version 6 of Veeam Back-up and recovery if they are different comparing to version 5.

When Opening the new version I noticed the fist difference: The pull down menu on the left side has changed there is no restore menu this has made placed for History menu. Also the SureBackup part is gone.

Pull down menu Veeam back-up version 5                                            Pull down menu Veeam back-up version 56
Pull down menu Veeam back-up version 5          Pull down menu Veeam back-up version 6

Back-up and recovery Exchange 2010 with Veeam Back-up and replication (enterprise) part 3/3

Veeam Backup and replication Icon This blog is part three of three on how you can make a back-up and more importantly how you can recover items from a mailbox. In part one I described which setting to set for a exchange 2010 back-up job. In part two I explain how to configure the virtual lab and application group that are necessary for restoring exchange items from a specific mailbox. So finally we have come to the most important part recovery of items from your exchange 2010 mailbox.
While performing a recovery for the first time you will see that the recovery process was made for  enterprise environment where task are divided. Recovery in Veeam Backup exists out of three steps. Step one asking for a recovery to take place. Step two control and approve of the recovery wish. And step three is the actual recovery . For the new back-up version I have heard that this process has been adjust but i did not find the time to play with the new product version.

Back-up and recovery Exchange 2010 with Veeam Back-up and replication (enterprise) part 2/3

This blog is part two of three of how you can make a back-up and more importantly of how you can recover items from a mailbox. In part one I described which setting to set for a exchange 2010 back-up job.  In this part I will explain how to configure the virtual lab and application group  that are necessary for restoring exchange items from a specific mailbox. I will also show how to make a surebackup verification job. The virtual lab and application group are part of the surebackup option of Veeam.

SureBackup is technology in Veeam Backup & Replication which can  be used to have a automate and simplify backup verification process. Within surebackup the virtual machine  runs directly form the back-up in a isolated environment and I will test if all the depended services are up and running. For exchange it will test if all ports are are up and running like port 25 for example. Within the surebackup section of the software you can make a job to test the back-up automatically. In the picture below you see the the SureBackup section and below this there is a member called Jobs here is where you will make the testing job.

Offline Address Book not updating

It’s possible that when using Outlook Anywhere the Offline Address Book will not update. The most common error is 0x8004010F.

There can be a couple things to look at:

  • If the account is less then 24 hours old, the Exchange server have not yet generated the Offline Address Book. The Offline Address Book is generated once a day.
  • The Offline Address Book Distribution is not setup correctly (externally this must be the autodiscover site).
  • The Offline Address Book is corrupt.

With the last one, you have to close Outlook 2007, go to “%UserProfile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook” and remove the *.oab files. The next time Outlook starts the Offline Address Book is generated again.
